The Wasatch Fault line
The Wasatch Fault Line is what our text book describes as a active fault line. As i was learning about this fault line, I have learned that it is 240 miles long that stretches from southern Idaho all the way to central Utah. That is one huge fault line.

I remember watching a earthquake video in first grade and the video talking about the fault line that runs right by my house. I thought, I'm going to die. But the reason why we were watching that video was to create preparedness in the event of "The Great Shake Out." We were taught to get under our desks and cover our heads and wait until we were cleared to leave and then move to a designated safe space.
Being prepared is something that we learned for school, but never for the home, but we all know that earthquakes will hit at any time of day, not just during school hours. I wondered what is our emergency preparedness plan for my family when we are home. We sat and talked about it and discussed some ways our family could be prepared.
1. What do we do when we are in our home and an earthquake hits?
Find a place to hide like a table or doorway and cover your head.
2. Parents will round up the kids as soon as possible and get them to a safe space away from harm.
3. We need to have food storage and a 72 hour kit ready.
4. After we are sure that our family is ok, help others.
5. If the government officials tell us that we need to evacuate, we must listen. By being prepared with a 72 hour kit, we should be able to leave at moments notice.
6. Try our best not to panic, it just causes more frustrations.
The image above gives you some idea of howto prepare your 72 hour kit.
Our family purchased an already prepared 72 hour kit. we loved that it was already in a backpack so that we could just grab and go.
We can't predict exactly when the big one is going to hit, but if we prepare now, we won't have to fear or cause more stress or undue burdens.
